Erma Eleanor Totorella passed away at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa. on July 7, 2017. Erma Tortorella was born on February 20, 1924 in Brockway, Pennsylvania. While a student at Brockway High School she played the guard position on an all girl’s basketball team. She attended business school and worked at Western Union Telegraph in her early years. Erma Tortorella was an art enthusiast and loved poetry, nature and keeping up with national and world events and social issues. She volunteered for The March of Dimes for many years and at Melody Fair Theatre Tent in North Tonawanda, New York. Ms. Tortorella also worked at Empire Bank, Amherst, New York, and Niagara Savings Bank in Amherst, , New York , as well as a bookkeeeper for an accounting firm in Tonawanda, New York. Ms. Tortorella was a widow and predeceased by her husband Urbano (Barney) Joseph Tortorella (2004) Erma Tortorella lived most of her life in North Tonawanda, New York (Niagara County) in the greater Buffalo area, before moving to Thornton, Colorado and Holicong, Pa (Bucks County, Pa.) Her kindness, beauty, sense of humor, warm smile and pureness of heart will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. She was much loved and will be very missed by friends and family.She is survived by her daughter Karen Marie Tortorella (Holicong-New Hope, Pa.), her son, Steven Tortorella and daughter-in-law Maureen (Young) Tortorella Thornton, Colorado. Ms. Tortorella is survived by her brother Donald and Jo Morelli, Brockport, Pa. Grandchildren: Amy Vadakin (Tortorella), and Scott Vadakin, great-grandchildren Gemma and Myla, and Maddox and Jolee (predeceased) , Thornton, Colorado. Also, grandchildren Ashley Tortorella, Brian Tortorella and his wife Lori, Shannon Grote (Tortorella) and Michael Grote, and great –grandchildren Shaye, Theo, and Noah. And, numerous nieces and nephews all living on the East Coast. She was also predeceased by sisters Helen Bruno, (Erie, Pa.), Rena Serafini (Brockway, Pa.) Evelyn Almonrode , Columbus, Tennessee, Raymond and Betty Morelli, Brockway, Pa, Brian and Dorothy Morelli, Brockway, Pa. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 6-8 PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 12 at 9:30 AM at St. Tobias Church also in Brockway with Msgr. Charles Kaza presiding. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery.
