Wayne Himes

Wayne Himes, 92, of Brookville died peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at his home of 65 years surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 23, 1931 in Ringgold, Jefferson County, he was the son of the late Paul and Virginia Smith Himes. He was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School. Following his schooling he was drafted into the US Army, serving in the Korean Conflict as Sergeant Wayne Larry Himes. After serving in the Korean War he met his beloved wife of 68 years on a blind double date, the former Hazel Joy Spare who survives. 
 

Wayne was a kind soul with a heart of gold, devoting his life to his family and God. Throughout the years he and his wife opened their hearts and fostered around 20 children. He worked at various labor jobs after serving his time in the army. Along with being a devoted farmer he later worked as a foreman for the railroad to which he retired after 28 years. He was a loyal member of the Gideons International, Farmers Union, and the NRA. He was a devoted member of Meade Chapel Church, serving God by teaching Sunday School Services and being an involved member for many years. 
 

Wayne is survived by his wife, Joy and siblings Eva Caylor, Leroy (Julie) Himes and children Dave Himes, Gail Himes, Paul (Tammy) Himes, Susan (Alex) Lingenfelter, Lisa (Ben) Penman and a beloved niece Deborah Wagner.

Surviving great-great grandchildren: Brielle Rowe, Colson Cieleski, Wesley Himes, Aspyn Himes, Wreyn Himes, August Zimmerman and Juniper Zimmerman. 
In addition to his parents Wayne is also preceded in death by Dorothy Condron, Bernard Himes, Pete Himes and Clair Himes. 
 

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 10 from 1 PM to 9 PM at the Meade Chapel Church 10195 Knox Dale Road Brookville, PA 15825 and again on Sunday August 11 from 2 PM to 4 PM also at the church. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor Joni Williams and Lay Speaker Kathy Dinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded at the time. Memorial donations may be made to the Meade Chapel Church or The Gideons International.
