Richard James “Kootch” Adams age 91 a Clay Plant Road Brockway, PA resident, died on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born on November 28, 1933 in Toronto, Ohio; he was the son of the late George and Anna Karaffa Adams Sr. On June 22, 1962 he was married to Gloria Coder and she survives. Retired, Kootch had been employed as a Postal Clerk working for the U.S. Postal Service in Brockway for 28 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He also was a member of Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion, where he served for many, many years of the funeral burial detail. He was a member at St. Tobias Church in Brockway and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Kootch enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, working in his yard, hunting, fishing and going to his camp. He also was a life long member at the Brockway Sportsmen’s Club. He greatest enjoyment however, came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughter Evelyn (Louis) Isabella of Brockway; a son Mark Adams also of Brockway; a sister Barbara Shields of Horse Shoe Bay, Texas; a brother Cornelius “Doc” (Eileen) Adams of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Karyssa (Brandon Lindemuth) Isabella, Hailey (Nicole) Adams, Amber (Timothy) Marshall, Anthony Isabella, Nicholas (Arizona) Isabella, Natane Isabella, great grandchildren Sylvie Marshall, Beau Marshall, Kohen Isabella, Abigail DeAmitt and Meisha DeAmitt. A great personal achievement in Rich’s life was when he turned age 90! He was the first male member to reach the age of 90 out of both sides of the family. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters Mary Catherine Keeney and Andrea Reitan, brothers Msgr. George Adams, Thomas Adams, John Adams and grandsons Kyle Adams and Nathanial Isabella. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 15 from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at the Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16 at 5:00 PM at St. Tobias Church in Brockway with Msgr. Charles Kaza presiding and Fr. John Detisch con-celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery with Full Military Honors accorded by Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the America Legion.
