Maxine T. Weed, from the Beechwoods community in Falls Creek, died on Sunday, 18 June 2023 at the DuBois Village. She was 98 years old.
Born in Falls Creek, she was the daughter of John Turk and Teresa Murray Turk. A 1943 graduate of Falls Creek High School, Maxine was the class valedictorian and May Queen. She attended Philipsburg School of Nursing while enrolled in the Army Nurse Cadet program. She graduated in 1946 and was employed at Maple Avenue Hospital.
Maxine married William Weed from Falls Creek in 1947. He predeceased her in 2007.
An active member of the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church, she participated in numerous mission and outreach projects. She was a talented quilter who dedicated many hours working on the annual church quilt. She served as a church Elder and Deacon. She was a member of the Presbyterian Woman’s Association.
A woman of many interests, Maxine was a prolific gardener, reader, golfer, painter and crossword enthusiast. As a self-taught pianist, she loved accompanying her husband Bill as he played the clarinet. Many hours were spent at the piano playing duets with her daughters.
Maxine is survived by her daughters Kathryn Rutter (Brian) from Altoona, Lisa Taylor (Jim) from Brockway, Linda Higgins from Falls Creek, and her grandchildren Liz, Kristen, Sarah, Georgia and Will and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents and her 6 siblings: Dick, Webb, Lucille, Harold, Jim and Shirley.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, 5 July of the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church with Pastors Dave and Emily Koehler officiating. Visitation at the church is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
