Mary Kay Marshall Obituary

Mary Kay Marshall, age 84, Brockway, PA; passed away Wednesday December 9, 2020 at Highland View Nursing Home in Brockway, PA. Born May 8, 1936 she was the daughter of the late Paul A. and Viola Gibson Marshall Sr. Mary Kay graduated from Brockway High School in the class of 1955. She was a lifelong member of the Brockway Presbyterian Church. She graduated from St. John School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She returned to Brockway to be employed with the DuBois Catholic Hospital. Mary Kay joined the Air Force and was  stationed in the Philippines during the Viet Nam War era and was also stationed in Minot, North Dakota. Mary Kay discharged from military service with the rank of Major. She also was in the Air Force Reserves and retired from there with the rank of Major. Upon returning to Brockway, Mary Kay Marshall became a plant nurse at Brockway Glass #1 where she continued for many years until retirement. Mary Kay was a very active member of the Brockway community. Among her most significant contributions was helping to found the Brockway Area Ambulance Association. Mary Kay taught first aid classes to volunteers to support the ambulance service in Brockway. Her classes were requested by neighboring communities who were seeking to begin ambulance services as well. Mary Kay’s influence can be seen in the extensive ambulance services of today as well as the many volunteers and and professionals who continue ambulance support or who have pursed a profession in health care. Mary Kay also was a significant supporter of the Brockway Old Fashioned 4th of July celebration in its beginnings. She was a member of the American Legion. Mary Kay enjoyed travelling with her parents. She was also a super fan for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Penn State Nittany Lions. Mary Kay dearly loved her dogs Beau and Tex. She is survived by many nieces and nephews; Paul A (Ellen) Marshall III, Robert M. (Kathy) Marshall, David M. (Tricia) Marshall, Timothy (Mary) Marshall, Chrystal (Hank) Bowling, Aaron Marshall, Roger (Lacey) Marshall, and several great and great great nephews. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Susan (Gilbert) Marshall, sister-in-law Jean Ansel and many wonderful friends in the Brockway area. Mary Kay was preceded in death by brothers Paul A. Marshall Jr; Gilbert Marshall and a sister-in-law Annabel Marshall. Due to current Covid concerns a private service for immediate family will be held. Interment will follow in Beechwoods Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Brockway Area Ambulance Association PO Box 222 Brockway, PA.
