Linda L. (Benscoter) Pierce Obituary

Linda Lee (Benscoter) Pierce, 78, of Brockway, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 20, 2025. Born on December 26, 1946, in Kane, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Doris (Hanson) Benscoter.

Linda graduated from Kane High School in 1964 and earned a degree in mathematics from Grove City College in 1968. She furthered her education in industrial engineering at Penn State University.

Linda broke barriers as the first female industrial engineer at Brockway Glass. She later served as the Brockway Borough Manager and then worked as the assistant plant manager at Ross Mould.

In her college years, Linda worked as a chambermaid at Montauk Point, where she learned to surf—an early glimpse of her adventurous spirit. An avid traveler, she had an effortless ability to connect with people, making friends wherever she went. Linda was also a devoted fan of hockey, football, and racing, possessing an impressive knowledge of game statistics. Her hobbies included knitting and quilting, and she excelled at games like mahjong and bridge. Linda approached every challenge with determination and skill. She was known for her independence, rarely complaining or seeking assistance.

Linda had a gentle, steady presence. She didn't seek the spotlight, but those who knew her were drawn to her warmth. She was the kind of person who showed up quietly and without hesitation—always with a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or a helping hand. Her generosity was not loud or showy; it was consistent, heartfelt, and deeply felt by those around her.

She was also a devoted fan of hockey, football, and racing, possessing an impressive knowledge of game statistics. She was the biggest Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan you could meet. She watched every Penguins, Steelers, and Penn State football game, never missing a play. One of her favorite memories was attending Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final in 2017, when the Penguins beat the Predators on their way to winning the Cup. She especially loved talking sports with her grandsons and always cheering them on in their own hockey journeys.

In the 2010s, Linda lived in Vero Beach and Sebastian, Florida, where she formed many cherished friendships. During this time, she volunteered at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, serving others with the same quiet dedication she brought to everything. But as much as she loved the sunshine, she missed her grandsons and the joy of watching them grow and play hockey. She returned to Pittsburgh to be near them before settling back in Brockway.

She created treasured memories with her grandsons, Noah and Evan, through countless shared moments—introducing them to golf during their first round together at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach, visiting the Pittsburgh Zoo, cheering at Pirates games at PNC Park, and making magical trips to Walt Disney World. She cherished long talks with them, listened without judgment, and offered guidance with tenderness and wisdom. Her greatest joy was simply being present in their lives.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Chuck" Pierce; her sister, Beth Ann; and her nephew, Doug Benscoter. She is survived by her son, Michael (Amy) Benscoter of Pittsburgh; grandsons, Noah and Evan Benscoter; brother, Dan (Margie) Benscoter of Clermont County, Ohio; sister, Nancy Benscoter of State College, Pennsylvania; niece, Julia (Micha) Sprague; nephew, Dan III (Lexi) Benscoter; and numerous grandnephews and one grandniece.

To know Linda was to love her. She had a quiet but undeniable ability to make people feel seen, valued, and welcome. She made friends easily and genuinely—never with effort, just with ease. She was generous to a fault and never hesitated to lend support, time, or a kind word. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
