Kay Shaffer

Kay Shaffer age 79 of Allens Mills Road Brookville, PA (Hazen) died on Saturday December 10, 2022 at Penn Highlands DuBois. Born on March 28, 1943 she was the daughter of the late Howard M. and Edna Reynolds Fox Sr. Kay was married to Alfred Clyde Foulks and he preceded her in death in 1963. She then married Samuel W. Shaffer on April 3, 1965 and he survives. Retired, Kay was a personal care giver to local families for a good number of years, and as her family grew she transitioned into a mom and a homemaker. Later on she became an Avon and Amway Representative to Hazen area residents for many many years. She was a member of the Hazen United Methodist Church where she served in many leadership roles over the years, such as Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group helper, Yearly Ashram and church janitor. She also was active in the Hand Bell Choir. Kay enjoyed scrapbooking, crafting, playing the key board, reading, camping especially camp fires, flower gardening and bird watching. She also was an amazing cook and baker. In addition to her husband she is also survived by 2 daughters: Barbara Foulks Smith; April (Mark) Caylor both of Hazen; a son Samuel W. (Vicky) Shaffer Jr. of Brockway; sister Nancy Repiscak of Brockway; 9 grandchildren: Tara Smith, Shane Smith, Chelsey Caylor, Blake Caylor, Mark Palmer, Melissa Palmer, Mike Palmer, Rob Shaffer, Ashley Shaffer; great grandchildren Landen Marrarra and Dylan Marrarra as well as many step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews whom she deeply loved. Kay is also preceded in death by sisters Patricia Bishop, Barbara Coder and a brother Howard “Butch” Fox Jr. Calling hours will be on Wednesday December 14 from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM and again on Thursday December 15 from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Glenn McQuown officiating. Burial will be in Temple Cemetery at Hazen.
