John Vincent Salandra age 81 a life long Brockway, PA resident died on Sunday February 13, 2022 at Jefferson Court in Brookville, PA. Born on March 5, 1940 in Brockway, he was the son of the late Octavius and Angelina Mastri Salandra. John was a U.S. Army Veteran and was stationed in Korea. After being discharged from the Army, he served in the Peace Corps in Kenya where he was introduced to teaching. John went on to graduate from Lock Haven University with a degree in Education and his Masters Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Retired, John was a school teacher at the St Marys High School where he also served as the high school wrestling coach. He also owned his own fly fishing business for many years. John loved to travel and made many visits to Europe, India and South America. He also made numerous trips to the continent of Africa. John is survived by 2 sisters: Clementine “Dena” Heglas of North Kensington, MD; Maria Dickstein of Miami, FL; 3 brothers: Clyde (Carol) Salandra; his twin brother Anthony (Kay) Salandra and Donald (Karen) Salandra all of Brockway. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by 2 brothers: Cesare and Alphonso Salandra. There will be no public visitation. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bernard’s Church in Falls Creek with Fr. Ed Walk Presiding. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery in Reynoldsville. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
