Jeanne Krauss Vassallo age 81 of Church Avenue Brockway, PA; passed away peacefully at her home after a two plus year battle with cancer, on Monday August 27, 2018. Jeanne was a very devout Christian who never waivered in her faith while battling her disease and looked forward to going home to be with her Lord and Savior. Born on December 17, 1936 in DuBois, PA; she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara Domitrovich Klebacha. She was married to William “Bill” Krauss and he preceded her in death in June of 1989. She then married Charles “Joe” Vassallo, the love of her life in 2004, and he preceded her in death in 2012. Jeanne was a homemaker, a job that she took great pride in. While she found great joy in routine tasks such as cooking, baking, ironing, and doing dishes, even more rewarding was serving as a foster parent for several years. Jeanne also was an avid gardener, known to many in town as “the flower lady” and enjoyed raising African Violets indoors. Whatever the type of gardening she was doing she always referred to it as “playing in the dirt”. Jeanne also enjoyed bowling, working on crafts or serving as a volunteer at the St. Vincent de paul thrift shop in Brockway. She was a member of the Beechtree Union Church. Jeanne is survived by a daughter Cindy (Peter) Kardar of Amherst, Ohio; 2 sons Rick Krauss of Brockway and Bill Krauss of Hazen; 7 grandchildren Eric Burton, Krystal Krauss, Danielle Krauss, Rhiannon Krauss, Paul Kardar, Hannah Kardar and James Tartal; 3 great grandchildren Evan Burton, Brooklyn Krauss and Maya Tartal. In addition to her parents and her husbands she is also preceded in death by a son Gary Krauss, an infant son Thomas J. Krauss and a granddaughter Rachael Tartal. Calling hours will be on Friday, August 31 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday September 1 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home with Rev. Terry Felt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hahne Cancer Center or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
