James Miles McConnell Obituary

 

James Miles McConnell, 92, 
Born, November 5, 1929, son of Glen and Hazel Miller McConnell of Beechwoods, Pa. and adoring husband of Evelyn Norris McConnell passed peacefully December 2, 2021. 

The youngest and sole surviving of six children, he attended Beechwoods School.  A simple farm boy who worked on the family farm until he was called to serve his country. Serving in Korea from 1952-1953, “Mac” earned the rank of Sergeant and Assistant Platoon Guide serving in the Army, 101st  Airborne, G Company, 7th Infantry Division, 17th Regiment.  He was a recipient of the “Purple Heart” and various other commendations. Returning home he married Evelyn Norris, side by side building their home and raising their family. A carpenter, he shared his skills to all willing to learn, 41 years employed at Brockway Glass/Owens Illinois Plant 2 and Machine shop he traveled the states and various countries sharing his knowledge and skills. He was also a member of the Brockway American Legion, Brockway VFW and lifelong member of Disabled American Veterans.
   
Along with his wife of 66 years he leaves behind two daughters: Debra (James) Straub of Harrisburg, Pa. her family Jessica and Brandon McCummings, daughters Tessa and Heidi and Neil Straub; Linda (Kevin) Daly, of Rockton, Pa. and her children Clinton James of Brockway, Amanda Wallace of Rockton and sole Great-grandson Philip James Wallace of Rockton, Pa.; and one son Al (Cle Smock) McConnell of Beechwoods, Pa. He also leaves behind one sole sister-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends dear to his heart. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Charles McConnell, Maryland; Lawrence McConnell, and Chester McConnell, Brockway; and two sisters Edna Lindemuth and Dorothy McConnell both of Falls Creek, Pa. 

At his request there will be no viewing at this time just a simple statement of “Thank you” to all who loved him. At a later date there will be a grave side memorial service with full Military Honors. Memorials may be made in his memory to the Lighthouse Church, 732 Main Street, Brockway PA, 15824 or the Brockway American Legion, 1109 Pershing Avenue, Brockway, PA  15824.
