Helen Bish Obituary

Helen Delores Bish, 93, of Brockway, went to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Sunday, November 10, 2024.

Born on November 27, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Susan (Platco) Renwick. She married her love, Clarence Bish, on October 22, 1950. Clarence preceded her in death in 2011, but they are now together again.

She was also preceded in death by her sisters Mary Lou Schutz and Roberta Sickeri, and infant great grandson Levi Zuccolotto. In addition to her brother Richard (Beverly) Renwick, Helen is survived by her devoted daughter Colleen (Larry) Ross, her granddaughter Ashley (Marc) Zuccolotto, her grandson Mikel (Andie) Ross, many nieces and nephews, and seven great grandchildren who she adored: Gabe, Jackson, Hannah, Bella, Jude, Kora, and Everett.

Helen graduated from Brockway-Snyder High School in 1948. She loved her classmates and often reminisced about their outings and class reunions together. She worked at Brockway Glass before becoming a homemaker.

She joined the Brockway Presbyterian Church in June of 1959, where she formed friendships that would last a lifetime. There, Helen would become the chairman of the children's nursery for more than 30 years, as well as an elder in the session, a member of the board trustees, and a Sunday School teacher. It is where she acquired the beloved nickname Helen Melon from the children.

Known as Aunt Helen to many people in town, she even became a second-mother to some, including her niece Debi Knisley and friend Carol Kroh.

She loved reading (and occasionally writing) poetry, listening to country music, and butterflies, but her REAL love was people. Helen made friends with every person she met. She loved people instantly and without judgement. Her favorite way to show people she cared was by sending cards. She spent her free time writing out cards for the special people in her life. Every birthday card came with the reminder to "Count your blessings, not your candles."

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 13 from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at the Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 14 at 11:00 AM at the Presbyterian Church also in Brockway with Rev. Terry Felt officiating. Burial will follow in Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville.

Memorial donations may be made to the Brockway Ambulance Association 1147 Cherry Street Brockway, PA 15824 or Brockway Vol. Hose Company P.O. Box 253 Brockway, PA 15824.
