Obituary

August Eugene “Gene” Strishock age 91 of Clayplant Road Brockway, PA; passed away from natural causes on April 4, 2022 while a guest at DuBois Village Person Care Community in DuBois, PA. Born on September 9, 1930 in Brockway, PA; he was the son of the late Stephen Edward and Mary Ann Sedlock Strishock. Gene was a graduate of the Brockway Area High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran stationed in Germany where he proudly served his country in the 103rd Engineer Battalion earning the Army of Occupation Medal Germany and the National Defense Service Medal. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he returned to Brockway and began what would become an illustrious sales career which he thoroughly enjoyed. Gene was a family man and an avid story teller who enjoyed nothing better than being outside on his John Deere, and bringing smiles to anyone lucky enough to share a moment or two of his time. Gene was an active member of St. Tobias Catholic Church in Brockway where he assisted with daily mass, serving as Eucharistic Minister, assisting in numerous funeral mass’s, and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. One of his greatest joys at the church was delivering food to home-bound families during the holiday seasons while sharing stories, hugs and smiles to brighten their days. Gene and Margaret Louise “Peggy” Rittenhouse Strishock were married on September 14, 1963. Surviving family members are daughter Bridgit Ann Strishock of Brockway, PA; son Christopher Gene Strishock and his wife Gina Verne Strishock of Sandy Hook, VA; and son Darin Nicholas Strishock of DuBois, PA; 2 grandsons Mark and Brandon Huffman. He is also survived by a brother Daniel W. Strishock and wife Joan of Oakton, VA; sister-in law Rhoda Strishock of DuBois, PA;  sister Dolores Farrell and her fiancé Steven Blau of Derwood, MD; and a sister Marilyn Shaffer and husband Raymond also of DuBois.  In addition to his parents and his wife of 46 years Peggy, he is also preceded in death by a brother Stephen A. Strishock, a sister Erma Lou Walters and her husband Claude Walters. Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 7 from 4PM to 8PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. A private Funeral Service will be held with Msgr. Charles Kaza officiating. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
