Ellsworth E. “Gene” Nichols age 93 of the Richardsville Road Brookville, PA; died on Sunday August 13, 2023 at McKinley Health Center at Laurelbrooke Landing in Brookville. Born on August 16, 1929 in Johnsonburg, PA; he was the son of the late Elmer and Violet Heitzenrater Nichols. On July 18, 1951 he was married to Wilma W. Clark and she preceded him in death in May of 2005. Retired, Gene had been employed as a Sawyer at Nosker Lumber in Hazen for over 40 years. He was a member of the Richardsville Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He is a member of American Legion Post #102 in Brookville and the 700 Club. He enjoyed the beach and trips to the Outer Banks, gardening and playing the accordion. He is survived by a daughter Carol (Bill) Harvey of DuBois, PA; a son-in-law Terry Hartzell of Hazen; a niece Judy Jordon also of DuBois; grandchildren Mathew (Christen) Harvey, Michelle (Christopher) Molnar, Michael (Jami) Hartzell, Melissa Harvey, Michelle (Jason) Hohl and Kevin (Lisa) Harvey. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife he is also preceded in death by a daughter Rose M. Hartzell. Visitation will be on Wednesday August 16 from 1PM to 3PM at the Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Steve Ent officiating. Burial will be in the Temple Cemetery at Hazen. Full Military Honors will be accorded by Post #102 of the American Legion following the service at the funeral home.
