Carolyn Shirley Carr, 90, of Brockport, PA, passed away peacefully in her home on February 7, her husband's birthday.
She was born on February 2, 1935, to Harold and Daisy Newhouse in Mt. Alton, PA. Harold passed away tragically when Carolyn was just 10 years old.
Carolyn attended Mt. Alton and Bradford schools.
On January 30, 1954, Carolyn married Raymond Albert Carr of Brockport, PA. They built their home in Brockport, where she had resided for 70 years. After 42 years of marriage, Ray preceded her in death on May 8, 1996.
Carolyn worked at Owens-Brockway Glass for 30 years before retiring in1996. Although she lost her beloved husband when she retired, she moved forward in love and living. Her retirement was full of faith, taking care of family, friends, volunteering and doing what she loved most. During this time, she was also a breast cancer survivor.
Carolyn was an amazing cook and baker. She never arrived empty handed without a homemade dish. She enjoyed hosting many holidays and family meals in her home. Carolyn and Ray instilled a love for camping with their family and that love continued through out her life. She finished her last camping season just this past fall.
Carolyn was known for her avid garage-sailing! She loved to garage sale with other family members and to find treasures to gift to everyone she loved!
She attended the Brockway Church of God, where she cherished being active. Her faith, the church and the people in it, were very important to her.
Carolyn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kathy Carr of Ridgway, PA; a son-in-law, James Buehler of Ridgway; six grandchildren, Valerie Santiago, Carrie Hart, Aaron Swartzfager, Leanne Nelson, Jamie Buehler and Amanda Reed; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Twila Barker of Bradford, PA and a sister-in-law, Mary O'Connell (Thomas) of Bradford, PA. Aunt Carolyn, who she was known by many, is survived by several nieces and nephews who she remained close with. She also had many best friends who she spoke with daily or went out on weekly adventures with.
Carolyn will be missed without measure. Until her illness just a few months ago, she was a very involved mother, grandmother and friend! She enjoyed being active and being apart of her community. Carolyn was an inspiration to all who knew her and her legacy will live on with all who loved her.
Carolyn lived this life experiencing many losses. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Mary-Kay Swartzfager and Patti Rae Buehler; a son-in-law, Brian (Bud) Swartzfager; a granddaughter, Heather Rae Buehler; and a grandson, Justin Otto Buehler. Carolyn was also preceded by sisters, June Zuccolotto of Northeast, PA, and Joanne Miller of Bradford, PA; a brother, Richard Newhouse of Bradford. She also lost her dear friend and companion in 2018 who she shared 16 years with, William Madigan of Warren, PA.

Funeral arrangements will be under Shugarts Funeral Home of Brockway. There will be no visitation. Funeral to be held at Brockway Church of God, Brockway, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025 with Pastor Dave Nagele officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Ridgway.
