Bernice L. Coleson

Bernice L. Coleson age 91 a lifelong Ridgway area resident, currently of Brockport, PA;  died on Saturday July 29, 2023 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois. Born on November 7, 1931 in Brandy Camp, PA; she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ada Ruth Merritt. Bernice graduated from the Horton Township School System. She was married to Charles Coleson and he preceded her in death in 1974. Bernice joined Alltel as an Operator in the Ridgway Service Area in 1955 and became Plant Clerk in 1974. In 1979 she was promoted to Records Administrator and at her retirement she held the positon of Test Center Supervisor. She was a member of the Business & Professional Women’s Club in Ridgway and was Methodist by faith. Bernice was know by her family and friends for having a wonderful, witty personality. She always enjoyed the simple things in life like maple candy and watching western shows and movies, and just taking rides in the car. She also enjoyed going to Joey’s Bakery for breakfast. She is survived by a son Carl Coleson of Brockport; 2 sisters: Edna Cribbs of Ridgway; Nancy Trumbull of DuBois; a brother Harry (Kitty) Merritt of Kersey, PA and a granddaughter Brianna Coleson of Brockway. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband she is also preceded in death sisters Martha Chmielewski; Flora Carr and brothers Arthur Merritt, Frank Merritt, Daniel Merritt and an infant brother Raymond. Visitation will be on Tuesday August 1, 2023 from 6 PM to 7 PM at the Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Ridgway. Memorial donations may be made to the Brockway Ambulance PO Box 222 Brockway, PA 15824, Gateway Humane Society PO Box 678 Falls Creek, PA 15840 or the charity of the donors choice.
