Barbara Lea Smith

Barbara Lea Smith age 84 a lifelong Brockway, PA (Hazen) resident, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at the McKinley Health Care Center in Brookville. Born on August 31, 1940 in Beechwoods (Jefferson County) she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Frances Hunter Shaffer. Barbara was married on September 3, 1960 to John R. “Captain” Smith and her preceded her in death on February 23, 2020. Retired, she had been employed at the former Allens Mills Meat Market as a meat wrapper. Barbara attended the Zion of Jefferson County Church in Brookville. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, going to camp and spending time with her family. She is survived by a son Alan (Barb) Smith of Brockway; a daughter-in-law Andrea Smith of Richmond, VA; a sister Diane Bell of North Carolina; a brother Robert Shaffer of Falls Creek; 3 grandsons: Jonathan Thomas Smith, Andrew Steven Smith and Hunter Rafe Smith all of Richmond, VA and 2 great grandsons Robbie Shane Smith and Jackson Thomas Smith. In addition to her parents and her husband she is also preceded in death by a son Steven R. Smith; sisters Mabel Tudor, Louise Crawford, Irene Raybuck and a brother Wendell Shaffer. There will be no public visitation and all services for Barbara will be private at the convenience of her family. Burial will be in Beechwoods Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
