Richard P. Musantry

Richard Paul Musantry, age 74 of Mount Joy, PA; formerly of Brockway, PA; passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 after a courageous twelve year battle with Scleroderma. Richard was born on January 20, 1943 in DuBois, PA; the son of the late Angelo and Amelia Verne Musantry. After graduating from Brockway High School in 1960, Richard enlisted in the Army Reserves. He then moved to Freehold, New Jersey and began working for Brockway Glass Company. On April 4, 1964 Rich married Lauretta Miller Musantry. Rich’s entrepreneurial spirit led him and his family to move back to Brockway in 1972 and open the Blue Kow Drive in Restaurant, soon followed by the Snack Shack Pizza and Game Room, both located in Curwensville, PA. Rich also loved operating concession stands at the Curwensville Dam, Clearfield Fair and other local events. He was also involved in many other business endeavors, and was a successful business owner for twenty years. Rich’s love of sports, children and his community led him to spend 30 years volunteering with local organizations. He served as baseball coach and president of the league, as an active member of the School Board and Recreation Board as well a manager of the Brockway Community Pool. After a brief retirement, Rich returned to work, serving as the manager of Arby’s in Clearfield until his Scleroderma symptoms forced him into permanent retirement in 2005. Mussy enjoyed spending time with his family, volunteering at Hershey Park and going to the casino. In addition to his wife Lauretta, he will be dearly missed by his children Keli Anderson (Paul); Rick Musantry (Julie) and Darcie Zeager (Dean),  a brother Tom Musantry; as well his grandchildren Derrick Anderson (Samar); Kyle Anderson; Jordan Musantry; Riley Musantry; Briana Allen (James) and Alaina Zeager. Calling hours will be on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway; and on Saturday October 14 from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM in the Chapel at St. Tobias Church in Brockway. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 PM at St. Tobias Church with Msgr. Charles Kaza officiating. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation of Delaware Valley (SFDV), 385 Kings Highway North, Cherry Professional Building, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
