William P. Puhala age 89 of Tonawanda, NY; died on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Tonawanda. Born in Lanes Mills, PA on April 3, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Mary Gankosky Puhala. He was married to Jean Puhala and she preceded him in death. Retired, he had been employed at General Motors as a welder. William was U.S. Army WWII Veteran. Bill enjoyed playing horseshoes and won numerous trophies demonstrating his skill of the game. He also had a love for antique cars and spent time refurbishing his Model T and Model A. He was avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates teams as was evidence by the many paraphernalia in his home. Other hobbies he enjoyed were: square dancing, listening to country music, and gardening. He is survived by a son, Justin, of Tonawanda, New York. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is also preceded in death by eleven siblings: May Liddle (Arthur), Helen Ritsky (Andy), Catherine, John (Leona), Joseph, Michael (Margaret), James, George, Anna Marie, Thomas, and Martha Puhala. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. Calling hours will be on Friday, March 17 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18 at 11:00 AM at St. Tobias Church in Brockway with Msgr. Charles Kaza presiding. Full Military Honors will be accorded Saturday morning at the church by Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery.
