Rita I. Brown

December 11, 1928 ~ February 14, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old


Rita I. Brown age 88 (formerly of Falls Creek and Brockway, PA) passed away peacefully on February 14, 2017 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois, PA on St. Valentine’s Day to be forever with her husband Norm.  Born on December 11, 1928 in Brockway, PA;   she was the daughter of the late Ted and Louise Bruno Fleming. She was married to Norman B. Brown on November 26, 1949 and he preceded her in death on September 16, 2016. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the original Brockway Glass Plant #1 and then years later, worked part time at the Gray Printing Operations in Falls Creek, PA. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law who always enjoyed her family and many friends to the fullest. She was known for her tireless yard work at the family home in Falls Creek, and her cooking abilities to be able to prepare a meal at a moment’s notice for unexpected guests. She also loved the many times of playing cards with both her family and friends. She will forever be remembered for her devotion to her husband and family, her love of the most Holy Rosary, her unique sense of fashion (especially during the various Holidays) and her wonderful homemade biscotti. She is survived by her two sons, Norman R. Brown (Betsy) and grandson Conner of Fairport, NY and Ted Brown (Janet) from Falls Creek, PA;  two granddaughters, Jessica of Dickerson, MD and Megan of Pittsburgh, PA; one daughter Louise Brown of Canandaigua, NY; Son-in-law George Pendleton of Brockway, PA;  and two granddaughters Bridgette (Steve) Pendleton Snyder of Rochester, NY, and Katie Pendleton of Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by two brothers Harry Bruno Sr. (Mary Jane) of Modesto, Ca, and Joseph Bruno Sr. (Helen) and one sister Dolly Anderson (Jim) from Anderson, Indiana. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, March 30 from 8:30 AM until 9:15 AM in the chapel at St. Tobias Church in Brockway. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 AM with Msgr. Charles Kaza presiding. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in Rita’s honor can be made to either Christ the King Manor 1100 West Long Avenue, DuBois, PA 15801 or the Gateway Humane Society 1211 Airport Road Falls Creek, PA. 15840. The Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. is handling the arrangements.
