Floyd E. Work

February 2, 1953 ~ September 15, 2017 (age 64) 64 Years Old

Floyd E. Work age 64 of Main Street Brockway, PA; passed peacefully from this life at his home on Friday September 15, 2017 with his wife, daughters and 4 legged kids by his side. Floyd was the third child and second son of the late Alec Maurice and Mary DeSantis Work. He was born in DuBois, PA on Groundhog Day, February 2, 1953. Floyd grew up on Kearney Road with his siblings, cousins and many friends. He attended the Brockway Area Schools before enrolling in the Graphic Arts Program at the former DuBois/Jefferson County Vo-Tech School, graduating in 1971. Floyd began and ended his working career of 34 years at Brockway Pressed Metals. While at BPM, he found his avocation and passion for public service beginning as a steward of the United Steel Workers of America Local 15335, eventually becoming Vice President and President. The International Union took notice of Floyd and offered him many opportunities within the organization, where he formed many lifelong friendships. At the urging of friends in 1976, he dialed a telephone number and made a blind date with a Falls Creek girl, Lisa Ritchey. It was love at first sight and the couple wed October 9, 1976. Floyd and Lisa were blessed by the births of their daughters Julianne (Tim Ehrhart) and Elise Ann Ritchey Work. Although not born to them, Taquann E. John is their son in every sense. Floyd was a member of the Brockway Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the Brockway Volunteer Hose Company, member and past president of the Brockway Borough Council, member and past president of the Jefferson County Board of Assistance and the founder and president of the Floyd Work Charm School. Floyd was a man of principle, honor and integrity, and he had a wicked sense of humor. We love him and will miss him forever.  In addition to his wife and children he is also survived by his brothers William A. “Bill” (Connie) Work of Tullahoma, TN; Paul R. (Donna) Work of DuBois, PA; brother in law Mark Boucher of Winston Salem, NC; 10 nephews, 2 nieces and many grand nieces and nephews as well as loving cousins and dear friends. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a sister Jeanine M. Boucher. Calling hours will be on Monday, September 18 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 19 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home with Rev. David Nagele officiating. Burial will follow in the Richardsville Cemetery.
