Albert Weirich

February 11, 1919 ~ October 12, 2017 (age 98) 98 Years Old


Albert Lynn Weirich, 98, passed away peacefully Thursday after a year long stay at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg. He was born in Brockway, son of Wade and Edna Weirich. He married Arvella M. Weirich on Oct. 2, 1944. They were married 69 years before she preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 2013. Surviving are his daughter, Linda Weirich of Duncansville and grandsons: J.D. Weirich and Ben Turben: a son, Bradley (Robin) of Hollidaysburg and grandsons: Zachary and Matthew and a sister, Louella Reuning. He was preceded in death by by his parents, sisters, Fran Lynady and Erma Smith and brothers: Jim and Pete Weirich. Albert was a US Army veteran during WWII. He served in Germany as a sergeant in a tank destroyer unit. Albert worked at Brockway Glass where he met his wife. He was a 33 year employee at General Electric, finishing his career with General Electric Supply Company in Erie Pa. He was a charter member  and primary caller of the Lakewood Lads and Lassies  and was also involved with the Squaws and Paws Square Dance Clubs in Erie. Albert was a Methodist by Faith, sang in the choir and was church treasurer for many years. Albert briefly held a private pilot's license. He loved traveling, having visited nearly every state and numerous countries. He was a Mason in Erie and Portville New York. He loved planes and trains, enjoying watching the radio controlled model pilots. He enjoyed  keeping up with the latest technology, wood working and was handy with tools. He was a dedicated  and loving father and papa  who would do anything for his family and never met a dessert he didn't like. Friends will be received from 12- 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct.15,2017 at Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc., Brockway, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Pastor Richard Harter, officiating. Burial will take place in Temple Cemetery, Hazen. Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg, 220 Newry St. Hollidaysburg, PA, 16648
